From Puerto Plata airport to Costambar
Twenty five minutes by road. Here is how it actually works when you walk out of the terminal.
Which airport
Puerto Plata (POP) — properly Gregorio Luperón International — is the one you want. It is about twenty five minutes from Costambar. The airport sits east of the city and Costambar is just west of it, so you pass through or around town on the way.
Santiago (STI) is the other option, about an hour and a half away. Flights are often cheaper and the drive is easy, so it is worth pricing both. Santo Domingo is four hours or more and rarely worth it for a stay on the north coast.
Getting from the terminal
There is a taxi rank outside arrivals and there will be drivers waiting whatever time you land. Agree the fare before you get in. That is normal here and nobody will think it rude. Dollars or pesos are both fine, and small bills are easier than large ones.

If you are renting a car
The desks are in the terminal. You do not need a car to stay in Costambar — the village is small enough to walk end to end, and the beach, the golf course and half a dozen restaurants are all a few minutes from the door. A car is worth having if you plan to go out to Damajagua, Cabarete or Santiago more than once.
Arriving late
Costambar is a gated community, and arriving after dark is routine — taxis come in and out all night. Tell us roughly when you expect to land and we will be awake. Nobody is left standing at a gate.
Coming back
Allow an hour to be safe: twenty five minutes of driving plus the queue at check in, which can be slow when two flights leave together. We can arrange the taxi for the return as well — it is easier than finding one from the village on the morning you fly.
